The N Modular Group is based on the original NTrak idea. This idea began in 1973 when a group of enthusiastic model railroaders got together at an N scale meet in California to generate interest and share information about N scale. The basic module is 4 feet by 2 feet with a set of standards so that each module can fit to an adjacent module, commonly with three tracks joining each other. In this way a very large running layout can be built.
The N Trak Club was formed in 1999 after a Railroad Convention in Cape Town. Members brought their own modules to meets to connect into a much larger layout. In 2010 a Show Module was built by three members which was exhibited at three venues. This Show Module consisted of six interconnected modules. The N Trak Club joined the CTSMEE in 2016 as the N Modular Section and this Show Module can now be seen at the CTSMEE Open Weekends.
The N Modular Group meets once a month when the modules are set up on a Friday afternoon and taken down on the following Sunday afternoon. This affords members the opportunity to run their trains for a short time on the Friday evening, on Saturday and on Sunday before closure. Twenty-one modules have now been built that once connected afford over a 68 feet, 20 meter, continuous run.
