About Us

CTSMEE is the second oldest modeling society in the world was formed in 1907 with a notice posted on the bulletin board at the Station Bookstall with read:-

"It having come to the knowledge of the writer, that there are several gentlemen who are desirous of forming, in Cape Town or suburbs, a Model Engineering and Electronic Society, based on similar lines to those in London and elsewhere with the object of exchanging views on modern machanism. He would be glad to receive any communications on the subject direct when a meeting could be held if sufficient gentelmen are of the same mind. Kindly address any letters to 'Model Society' c/o Messrs' Utting & Fairbrother Cape Town."

Making Tracks

Is a fictional novel about the early railways in Cape Town, written by Robert Herbertson
Read below for a short excerpt of the first chapter.

"It is a little known fact that Cecil Rhodes planned to extend the railway that ran from Cape Town to Muizenberg with a branch line that would terminate at Hout Bay. Already an extension of the line to Sea Point had been considered, to link up with Camps Bay and Hout Bay, but Rhodes, as usual, had a hidden agenda."
